What is it?

In January of 2015 the Cradle Cancer Foundation was created.  The foundation was originally established to help Christy Colon (former teacher/coach at JBHS) but due to her great selflessness, it has grown to help others.  Christy’s vision was to help others who are struggling in the school district.  Christy wanted to ensure that others would not have to fight cancer and fight to obtain funds. Like many foundations, The Cradle Cancer Foundation raises monies for OUR Martin County School District Employees. When a district employee or an immediate family member is battling cancer, we are here to help.

How can I receive help? 

There is a short application that will need to be completed.  A board will then look at the application and a decision about scholarships will be made at that point.  We can provide funds immediately for doctors’ appointments, treatments, and everyday expenses that come along with this fight.

What has the Foundation done?

The Foundation has been going strong for 10 years and has assisted Martin County teachers and families with financial help of more than $23,000.  The foundation has also donated $20,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

How can I help?

If you are a MCSD Employee, the United Way is our biggest fundraiser for MCSD Employees. During the MCSD United Way Campaign fill out the United Way form online and where it says “invest my donation in” simply click other 501 (C) (3) and write in Cradle Cancer Foundation Inc.

Annual Wrestling Tournament
Each January JBHS hosts the Cradle Cancer Invitational wrestling tournament. Last year’s tournament had 34 boys teams & 26 girls teams from all over the state. We also had a team from NY. Monies are raised by tickets sales, donations, and T-shirt sales. 2025 will be the 11th Annual Wrestling Tournament.
